Brainstorm for my Theme of Travel.
These two photographs are part of my planning to get to my final piece. I chose the theme Travel because quite a few ideas came to mind. The first diagram is a mind map I created with words relating to the context of travel. The second diagram is where I chose seven of the words, that were most interesting, and tried to link them together. These two diagrams helped me in my planning stage because I was able to combine a couple words which may come in handy when I come to think of my final piece.
Idea 1
My first idea was pretty simple. I thought of capturing a tube-train in action a it was arriving at the station. The tube-train would have the effect of long exposure creating the lights to become vibrant as well as blurred. Also a large depth of feild is visible.

Idea 2
My second idea is in the style of Ken Kaminensky. I would like to have some buildings standing still in the background while cars are rushing past in the foreground. I believe this would be effective as the blurred cars would have colour and looked rushed which would contrast the non-moving buildings.

Idea 3
My third idea is to have a collection of photographs that include landscape/cityscape and elements of travel, which in this case is transport. I would like to have a cityscape reflected off of a type of transport or a part of transport as if it is a frame.

Here are three of my own interpretations of Mauren Brodbeck's work. The first photograph is of a pub and I used photoshop to cover it up making it look opaque and plain. This is a simple version of some of the work Brodbeck has created.

Getting To Know The Camera.
For my task I had to label a picture of a camera. I decided to draw the camera myself to get a better understanding and view of the different parts that make up a camera. I now have a better knowledge of how the different parts of the work together to operate the camera.

To me this photograph is very powerful and captivation. When I look at this photo I am drawn towards the poor boys face and the pair of hands that rest among the boys shoulders. This indicates to me that the father and son have a close, strong and unbreakable relationship. I gather this from the way the father is almost pulling his son into an embrace and the overlapping hands are supporting his helpless weak child. It seems to me as if the child is tired and worn out and he looks as though he has given up on something. I also find it fascinating how only the fathers hands are shown in this picture and it makes me wonder what the father looks like and the facial expression he holds, whether it is desperate, like his son, or is he trying to be strong for his son and to set the impression that everything is fine.
Using Photoshop to Create Depth of Field.
- From the before and after photographs, you can see that I have used the blur tool on Photoshop to blur out the background and midground leaving the foreground in focus. I have also blurred out the foreground to make the background focused.
- The first photographs are of two buildings, one behind the other. I have blurred out the foreground of the photo, which it the front building, to make the other building in the back stand out more.
- The second pair of photos are of three trees in a diagonal line behind each other. I have used the Photoshop blur tool to make the foreground, which is the first tree, stand out more by blurring the two other trees in the background. I also used the sharpen tool on the first tree to help make it stand out more.
- The last pair of photographs are of my brother holding out his hand. The first photo shows that both the hand and face are focused so I used Photoshop to blur out the background so it would leave the hand the only thing focused on.

- I decided to go to London Westminster for my third photo shoot. I was aiming to get photographs of different types of transport around London and elements of movement within the photos so the different speeds of the transport are visible. Some of the cars that I pictured have been panned out so that the background is blurred and the car is much more focused.
- I tried to capture movement in the photographs of the escalators to represent the ways of travel.

- For my fourth photo shoot I went to a scrap yard to see what interesting objects of transport and types of transport I could find there which would link to my final piece idea of travel.
- At the scrap yard I was able to find a couple tires lying around along with weird and fascinating car parts, enabling me to use techniques like filling the frame and depth of field to capture these photographs. I found a rusty old bus stationed in the scrap yard and took it as an advantage to get some photographs of it from different vantage points. I also found a car in which the air-bag had been burst in a recent accident.
- Lastly I was permitted to witness the process of a car being crushed in action and was able to catch a few photographs where the process could be captured. However, due to privacy from the owner of the scrap yard, I was not allowed to take too many photographs.

- For my sixth photoshoot, I went out in the morning on a cloudy day to take some photographs standing on top of a bridge in Richmond where cars drive under, in order to capture the movements they make.
- I was able to capture different shots of cars driving under the bridge one after the other by using the sports section on the programme dial, which initially allows me to overlay the photographs on photoshop showing business.
- I like how there are elements of nature in the photographs portrayed by the trees and then there are buildings in the background showing industrialisation and cityscape.

- For my seventh photoshoot, I went out in the afternoon to a bridge overlooking a road, in Twickenham, to take continuous photographs of the cars driving under the bridge and through different roads.
- To capture these photographs I again used the sports section on the programme dial, since it worked for my other shoot, and I continuously clicked the shutter to receive as many photographs as possible to layer up on photoshop.
- With this photoshoot, I like how there are many roads visible exposing the different directions the cars are moving in.

I used this method of overlaying on photoshop to create my final pieces.
